The locals in Barcelona like to party and the city is home to a host of seasonal festivals, with religious parades, carnivals and concerts year-round.

Popular festivals in Barcelona include the following events.

Annual Barcelona Festivals


  • February: Feast of Santa Eulàlia, with medieval dancing and costumed parades through the streets of the city centre
  • March: Carnival, a range of religious festivals marking the start of the Lenten season
  • April: Feast of Virgin of Montserrat, known for its choir concerts and 'sardana' dancing
  • May: Corpus Christi, typically Spanish event held throughout the country, including colourful carpets of flowers, together with processions and a range of local festivities
  • June: Sonar, one of the largest electronic music events of its kind in the whole of Europe, taking place at a number of different venues in central Barcelona
  • June: Feast of Sant Joan, with bonfires, fireworks and plenty of food
  • August: Assumption Festa Major, taking place each year in the middle of the month, with street parties and celebrations for all ages
  • September: Mare de Dèu de la Mercé, Our Lady of Mercy celebrations, lasting around one week and honouring the patron saint of Barcelona
  • November: Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barcelona, attracting many famous jazz performers, with various concerts around the city
