Barcelona's city centre is quite compact and many of its main sights are within walking distance of each other. The city also has reliable and frequent buses to get you around town. Probably the quickest and easiest way to travel within the city is on the Barcelona Metro, which serves many of the city's tourist areas, not to mention some of its fascinating suburbs.

If you plan to travel farther afield, the city boasts a decent commuter train line called the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC). There are main stations at both the Placa de Catalunya and Placa d'Espanya.

Barcelona International Airport (BCN) is conveniently located just 7.5 miles southwest of the city at El Prat de Llobregat, not far from the Mediterranean coastline. As Barcelona has grown in popularity, the airport has become one of the busiest in Europe, with excellent domestic and international connections available. The airport is linked to the city by frequent bus and train services.
